Diy Rustic Farmhouse Style Utensil Holder

I found this wood/galvanized crate at Goodwill that I thought would be perfect for a rustic farmhouse style utensil holder. I had thought at first about repainting the galvanized side panels that are red back to looking like galvanized metal with my galvanized metal technique. But the hubby liked the red, which leaving it makes a really easy makeover.

To start I washed it all down with hot soapy water. After all my cooking utensils will be stored in the rustic wood crate.

Next, I removed the red metal tag that says Apple Farm. Then I dry brushed the wood frame with white chalk paint.

While that was drying I painted the metal tag with white chalk paint as well. Giving it two coats, letting each coat dry thoroughly.

Wanting to stencil the word Farm, but not finding the font I wanted among my single letter fonts. I decided to use a quote stencil from another farmhouse project makeover.

The word farm from the stencil fit perfectly. Using Rust Red, I stenciled Farm on the metal tag. Then I used an old toothbrush to add some rust red splattering to the tag, which matches the red panels of the crate.

Now out to the garage to distress the tag with sandpaper. Once I got the desired look I was seeking. I then wired the tag back onto the rustic crate using my round nose pliers to twist the wire up into a little knot to hold the metal tag in place.

That was it for this rustic farmhouse style utensil holder. Easy Makeover!!!

It was the perfect sized to add my stainless utensil holder and a large glass jar inside of the crate side by side. That way I have all my utensils handy there next to the stove.

Loving how it turned out!

How do you like my rustic farmhouse style utensil holder? Should I add some rust to the sides like I did in this post using cinnamon?

Thank you Pam! At first I thought it may be too large for a utensil holder, but it worked out great! Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you Florence! It was a easy makeover that I wish I had thought of earlier instead of letting it sit in one of my many piles of things to makeover. LOL

Stunning Linda. I love the way you reused the sign too and made it fit with the new look. I have got to look for something similar, out utensils just don’t fit into the little utensil holder we have.

Thank you Michelle! I was afraid that it would be to big as a utensil holder, but it worked out great. It holds all the utensils that I use regularly. I bet you will come up with something perfect for a utensil holder.
