This repurposed wood shutter message board was made from one of the wood shutters that I found at a garage sale last year. I got the idea from a blog called Homeroad Repurposed & Reloved.
I’ve been saving my wood shutters for just the perfect projects, like my repurposed shutter photo display, since wood shutters are hard to come by.
This repurposed wood shutter message board was a really easy project. First I cut the shutter into, using the smaller section for my shutter memo board, then sanded the edges.
I first though about painting it turquoise but not wanting to paint each little slate in the wood shutter I decided to go the easy route. Use my magic aging solution, which was quick and easy.
I guess the shutter being a different type of wood that I usually use my magic solution on it turned more brown instead of grey.

I left it to sit overnight to get good and dry, then I painted the top solid section with three coats of chalk board paint.
I found the wire basket at Hobby Lobby and removed the handle. I drilled four small holes in the shutter in the position where I wanted my basket to be. Then wired it in place, twisting and tighten from the back of my wood shutter.
I had some medium size clothes pins to use to hold business cards and notes.
I seen a fabric covered spool banner on Pinterest and decided to add one to my message board. What do you think?
Love this! I’d love to try making it…I’m inspired to do more garage sale hunting now. Pinned it!

Hi Heather! Garage sale shopping, flea marketing, thrift sale shopping, it’s all fun. I love both, you can find some great buys.
We are about to replace an old “shutter-style” closet door that covers our water heater and this idea is fantastic! I am sure I can apply your technique to the door!

Yes Meagan that would make a great one. I seen one once where the top of the door was all chalkboard, pretty cool!
Such a good idea! I have a bunch of old shutters lying around waiting for me to re-purpose them. I might just have to do this!

Thank you Kimberly! It was a fun project.
I love this. I made one and painted in bright yellow with some wood clothespins to make it pop. I have pictures and cards hung on it. I love the idea to add a basket though!

Oh I bet that turned out pretty! I wanted to do mine in turquoise, but was afraid it wouldn’t match.
This is such an awesome idea! I love how it turned out.
