Hi All! The last post that I shared was a faux mercury glass salt shaker ornament that turned out super cute. This week I am going to share some DIY mercury glass jars. There will be two techniques where I spray the looking glass spray inside the jars like I did with the salt shaker ornament. I will also share one where I used the spray paint on the outside of the jar. Then you can decide which technique you like the best. These are both techniques that I found online. But I can say that spraying the paint on the inside is by far my favorite.

Let’s get started with the first technique of spraying the outside of the jar first.

#1 DIY Mercury Glass Jar Technique

Make sure that you start with a clean jar. Shake the looking glass spray approximately 2 minutes to make sure that it is mixed well.

Next give the outside of the jar a fine mist of equal parts mixture of vinegar and water, and set the jar upside down.

Then give the jar a light spray coat of the looking glass spray.

Let set 30 seconds then dab off with a paper towel.

Repeat the steps above until getting the desired look that you are going for.

Leave the jar to dry before decorating.

Then tie a piece of twine around the neck of the jar and pop some poinsettias inside for a pretty Christmas centerpiece.

This technique makes the jar somewhat shiny and it’s pretty cool with the water spots. But it doesn’t remind me of the shiny glass look of mercury glass.

#2 DIY Mercury Glass Jars

For these jars I will apply a light coat of spray inside of the jar using the Krylon looking glass spray paint. Shake the can approximately 2 minutes before applying a light coat of paint inside of the jar. Then rotate the jar to evenly coat the inside of the jar.

Wait 30 seconds then lightly mist the inside with a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water. Use a clean paper towel to dab off the water drops on the inside.

Repeat these steps until you get the desired mercury glass effect that you are looking for.

Let dry and decorate.

I am so much happier with this technique for making diy mercury glass jars.

To decorate these mercury glass jars I just added some chain around the necks of the jars and some bling all from my jewelry making stash.

Two of the jars I also painted the lids with black chalk paint then went back and sponged on some silver metallic paint.

Then glued some crosses from my stash to the tops using E-6000 adhesive.

I LOVE how these jars turned out so much that I want to spray the inside of every jar I have using the looking glass spray paint. LOL!!! Which technique do you like the best for day mercury glass jars? Spray the inside of the outside?
