I’ve been doing some research on different ways to drive traffic to your blog. These are some pinterest tips that I put together for driving traffic to your blog through Pinterest.
Why Use Pinterest?
Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows you to organize and share images and content that you find on the web. Pinterest allows you to save and organize these pins on boards. You can browse and discover other pinboards created by others that are of interest to you. Discover new interest, get inspiration, share your interests, and engage with others.
Pinterest is a great tool to create you brand, promote yourself, and drive traffic to you blog.
Pin It and Share
Add the “Pin It” Button to your bookmarks bar, and use it when you come across an image or some great content you want to share. Simply click the “Pin It” button in your bookmarks bar and pin to one of your boards, share on Facebook & Twitter at the same time.
Convenience To Share
Make it convenience for others to share your blog post by adding a Pin It Button on your post where it can easily be seen.
Keyword Rich Descriptions
Writing your own keyword-rich descriptions will help get your pins and boards found easier during a search.
Edit Pins
Edit your pins, and add to the appropriate boards.
Pin From Original Post
When pinning from a blog post, make sure you are pinning from the individual post not the home page. (It is so frustrating when you click on a pin and it takes you to the home page instead of the actual post). You can get to the individual post by clicking on the post title.
Weed Out Dead Pins
Help weed out dead pins by taking the extra time to click over and see if a pin is a good one. (I don’t remember how many times I click over and the post is either not there or it’s spam).
Spread Out Pins
Don’t overwhelm your followers by pinning a ton of contents at one time. (If you’re like me you can get on Pinterest and just go crazy pinning things that you want to save and before you know it you have a gazillion pins).
You want Pinners to engage and follow you on a daily basis, so spread those pins out throughout the day.
One way to cut down on pinning at one time is to Like the pin, then you can go back later and pin it.
Set A Timer
If you find yourself spending too much time on Pinterest why not set a timer for 10-15 minutes then once it goes off Stop, and move on to something else. Great suggestion from Kelli at Learn to Blog Handouts.
Clean And Organized
By keeping your boards clean and organize you will gain more followers.
Use relevant keyword titles for your boards that tell what your board is about. This will make it easier for you boards to be found in search results.
Find Boards To Follow
Find people and boards to follow that are of interest to you. You don’t have to follow all of an individual’s boards; you can pick and choose the ones that you want to follow.
One way to find great boards to follow is when you find a pin you like click on the original source that it came from and look at their boards.
Fresh Content
Don’t just repin other pins; look for fresh content to pin.
Blog Board
Create a blog board, a place where your followers can find all of your blog post.
Hashtags
Use hashtags in your descriptions so that your images will show up in a gallery with other relevant images using the same hashtag. Hashtags make it easier for like-minded users to find you.
Use your username as a hashtags to create more awareness, and make it easier for you to be found.
Don’t over use hashtags though or you will be looked at as being to spammy.
Promoting A Product
If promoting a product add a price tag to a pin. Either by adding a “$” or a “£” in the description of your pin.
But don’t just promote your product, you need to promote others as well as yourself, engage with others by commenting and sharing great content.
Pin On The Go
Don’t forget that the iPhone has a Pinterest app to make pinning throughout the day that much easier.
