These chalkboards were all made with some of my thrift store finds. 
I’ve been wanting to do up some more chalkboards made from old frames, but never could find any frames that I liked until I found these frames. 
The one above is my favorite, I love the beautiful detail work. I wish I had of kept it, but too late it sold in the first couple days after I dropped it off at Nashville of Texas.
All the chalkboards were made by first painting the frames then cutting a thin piece of wood cut to size and painted with several coats of chalkboard paint.
Distress the edges of your frame with sandpaper. Then glued the chalkboard in place where the glass would of been.
This one is a cutting board painted with chalkboard paint, then I stenciled a chevron pattern at the top.
I got the idea for the little chalk bags from “Confessions Of A Serial DIY’er“.
These chalk holder bags are made from burlap that I stenciled polka dots on. Then I ran a bead of hot glue down the sides and glued them together to form a pocket leaving about a 1/2″ at the top where I punched a hole and ran a piece of jute through.
I attached them to the frames by stapling the jute to the top back part of the frame. The cutting board had a hole at one corner where I attached the chalk bag.

I’ve just finished some that were kitchen cabinet doors, and that worked great. Good reuse, anyway. I love your blue one, too bad you sent it to a new home!

We salvaged slate from an abandoned building and re purposed them into chalkboards for the office and play rooms. Super handy to have! Great post – beautiful work!
