My metal smithing skills so far consist of the cold connect method. I haven't tried soldering yet, and the only thing I've used a torch for, is to make my own headpins.
I use wire rivets in my cold connections. I like how the wire stands out from the piece I am connecting. That is when I am using a different type of metal then what the wire is made of.
Holding on to that tiny piece of wire and trying to hammer it at the same time is really tough. Check out this "How To Make Wire Rivets"
