How To Make A Rustic Texas Flag
This rustic Texas flag was made from a cedar fence picket that I hand-painted then wired together.
You will find that I love making things out of cedar pickets, and making Texas Flags. You will find that this Rustic Texas Flag is really easy to make.

Start off by cutting your wood to two 24″ pieces, then add the aging solution and let dry.
Put your two pieces together then tape off the area for the blue and start brushing on your navy blue paint. Leaving some of the aged wood showing through.
Once dry you can remove the tape.
Separate the pieces of wood and start adding your red paint to one leaving some of the aged wood showing through.
Now add the white paint, once again letting the aged wood show through.
Make a star stencil out of cardstock.
Position your stencil and start filling in your star onto your board using white paint and a stenciling brush or sponge. (Make sure the pieces of wood with the white is on the top of your sign before you stencil your star on).
Once your star is dry drill your holes to attach your wire to hold the two pieces together to form your flag.
Form your wire like a big staple.
Run it through your pre-drilled holes and
using needle nose pliers just give each side a twist to hold the pieces together.
Add some wire to the top of your Texas flag to hang it by.
That’s all there is to making your own Rustic Texas Flag.

It is really easy to make, guess that’s one reason I make lots of things with the Texas flag, and the other I’m a Texas (-;

I love this technique you have used Linda. I just popped over and pinned it. The flag looks great just in time for the 4th of July, or even Memorial day. Oh you don’t need a holiday to display this great flag. Just hang it on the wall.

I love this flag! Our oldest son and family live in TX, and our daughter-in-law is originally from TX, as her parents and grandparents. Maybe I can make this for them as a Christmas gift. It’s never to early to start on it.
Linda @ Mixed Kreations says
Thanks Carol! No it’s never to early to start your Christmas gift making early, and if there from Texas I’m sure they would love the rustic flag.

Linda, I would imagine that you could sell quite a bit of these beauties in your neck of woods. Do you make these for your shop? And do you use new or used cedar pickets? They really do look fantastic…I may try my hand at a version of the US flag for the 4th. Have you made a US flag in this style?
Wishing you a fantastic Weekend.
Hug, Lynn

Yes I have made several for my booth and they have sold pretty fast. I use new cedar but I add a wood aging solution. I use to be able to find weathered pickets all over, but now they are hard to find. Others beat me to them I guess. My next one is going to be on a old shingle. I made a U.S. flag once but haven’t made any lately, they are little more work. Guess I should make a couple up though for my booth.
Have a Great Week.

Love this! I would pay good money for decor like this, so the fact that it’s DIY is FABULOUS!

Thank you Lindsey! If I can make it myself I will. The hubby says I’m cheap, but why buy when you can do it yourself.
