Easy Wall Art From Old Wood Frame

This easy wall art from old wood frame is a simple project that can be made from any an old frame and some scrap fabric of your choice.

This old beat up picture frame is just one of many that I have stashed in my closet that I had picked up at Goodwill one time or another.

I’m sorry that I don’t have step by step pictures for this tutorial, sometimes I get in a hurry and before I know it I am done with the project and forgot to take pictures. 😉 But this is a really easy project and I will walk you through the steps so you shouldn’t have any problem making one yourself if you chose.

Supplies Needed For This Project

* Old wood frame
* Scrap fabric that will cover the cardboard insert of the frame (Walmart sells small pieces)
* Piece of burlap(affiliate)
* Fabric flower (to make your own)
* Mod Podge(affiliate)
* Small wood cross(affiliate)
* Embellishment jewel
* Hot glue
* gorilla glue(affiliate)

Diy Wall Art From Old Wood Frame

For starters I took the glass and backing off the wood frame, then I gave it a quick sanding. Then I painted the frame blue (one of my fav colors). Once it was dry I sanded the frame to make it look a little bit worn.

After the sanding I used my black ink pad and lightly rubbed it across the edges of the frame. I then lightly dry brushed a little grey acrylic paint on the frame.

Next I took the cardboard insert that was in the picture frame and applied Mod Podge(affiliate) to the back of the cardboard. I then laid my zebra stripe material on top of the cardboard, and smoothed it out. Then I applied some more Mod Podge to the center of the zebra print fabric for my piece of scrap burlap.

The cross that I used in this easy wall art from old wood frame was a wooden cross that I had painted using the faux leather technique that I learned recently.

I glued the cross on top of the scrap burlap with a dap of gorilla glue(affiliate), and attached a turquoise colored jewel with gorilla glue.

The flower was made by twisting and winding a scrap piece of material. I used hot glue to attach the flower to the frame.
