Hi All! Today I’m going to show you a really simple project that can be made in no time at all, and would make a great gift idea. My rustic key to my heart picket.

I finally broke down and used one of the metal keys that I’ve been hoarding. This project can be personalized in your choice of color, or for whoever you are gifting it too.

Key To My Heart Picket

All you will need for this project is 12″ piece of wood (I used a cedar fence slate), acrylic paint turquoise and white, wire, pliers, wire cutters, and an old metal key.

Dry brush your turquoise paint on your wood lightly, you don’t want to cover it all.

Let the wood show through.

Draw or trace a heart on the wood.

Paint the heart white.

Position your key over the heart.

adding wire to key to my heart

Wrap your wire haphazardly around the wood while holding your key in place. Make however many wraps you want.

tightening the wire

Flip your wood over, and using your pliers twist the wire to hold it in place.

Cut the ends off and tuck wire end under.

What do you think of my rustic key to my heart picket? Got any good project ideas for my other keys?
