What is a privacy policy and does your blog need one?

What is a Privacy Policy

First off I am not an expert blogger; I am still in the learning stage. So this means more reading, and changes being made to improve my blog and one of the things that came to light while reading “Building a Framework” by Abby at Just a Girl and Her Blog, is I need a privacy policy statement which I knew nothing about until I read Abby’s eBook. I am finding so much helpful information in her eBook to help improve my blog. But enough of that now back to.

What is a Privacy Policy and Does Your Blog Need One?

A privacy policy is a statement that tells visitors that come to your blog what type of information that is collected about them while they are on your blog. If you collect information such as names and emails for a newsletter, or for displaying third party ads like Google AdSense then yes you need a privacy policy clearly stating what information that is collected and how it is used or shared.

Even if you are not participating in an advertising program that requires a privacy policy statement on your blog it is still a good idea to have one the way technology is evolving and the amount of online fraud and the misuse of personal information. Your visitors will be assured that their sensitive information will be protected, and one of the easiest ways to do this is to provide a privacy policy on your blog.

If you don’t have a privacy policy on your blog and would like to add one but don’t have a clue how here is a free privacy policy generator that you feed in formation and it builds one for you.

Do you have a privacy policy, or any tips for making one?

    I only have affiliate links on my blog right now, and a newsletter opt in. I wonder if I need one for that?

      Hi Miranda! It is a good idea to have one if you often a newsletter or have affiliate links. I just recently learn about a privacy policy myself after reading the ebook I mentioned in the post. If you haven’t a clue like myself how to write one there is a link in my post towards the bottom that offers a free one. You just feed in a little bit of information and if produces one for you. Really easy, they do the hard work. (-;

      Hi Crystal! I’m sure a lot of bloggers don’t realize they need one, I just recently found out I needed one after reading the ebook “Building a a Framework”.
