This here is a box that I picked up at the Goodwill, that got a new look. It was brown with two sides that were inset with a light cream color. The top corners have antique brass, and the handle is metal.

First I covered the brass corner plates with blue painters tape, removed the handle, and then painted the brown part of the box blue, once dry I used Mod Podge to stick the scrapbook paper down into the insets then gave it a light coat over top. I hot glued jute around the edges of the insets framing the scrapbook paper.

I had a package of wood crosses that I had picked up once at the craft store, thinking that they would come in handy sometime. So I painted two of them a golden yellow, then sponged on some burnt umber to give it the look of leather, like I did on my cross with wings tutorial.

Then all that was left was to remove the blue tape, put handle back on, glue the crosses on, and sand the edges to give it a shabby worn look. I had planned on listing it in my Handmade Artist Shop. But I love how it turned out and don’t want to let it go.

What do you think? Do you like the color? How does the scrapbook paper look with the cross?
