Hi All! Can’t believe another year has flown by so fast and Christmas is almost here again. Last year I had planned on making a Days Til Christmas Sign but never gotten around to it. Wasn’t even sure how I wanted to make it. While digging through the shed recently I came across this chair that I picked up at a yard sale about 3 or 4 years ago. My plan was to fix the front broken piece, repaint, and recover the seat but never got around to it. Now taking another look at it I decided it would make a cute Days Til Christmas sign by cutting the chairs back off. So that is exactly what I did and now I have four other pieces to repurpose as well.

Days Til Christmas Sign
First, I cut the back of the chair off. The piece that I will be making my Christmas sign out of. Next came the back legs with the back portion of the seat, and the front section with the front portion of the seat, two side pieces were also saved to repurpose at a later date.
The chair back got a good cleaning than a base coat of green chalk paint. I didn’t have any dark green chalk paint so I used the green I had on hand because chalk paint adheres easily to varnished surfaces without any prepping. I will go back over it with darker green acrylic paint.
Once the base coat was completely dry, I went back over it with two coats of Hunter green.
Next, I used carbon paper and added the working for my chair back sign.
Using a fine paintbrush and white paint I went over my letters.
When everything was thoroughly dry, I added a little detail work with a fine tip brush. The red dots were added using a stylus.
Three coats of chalkboard paint were used in the oval portion of the chair.
A quick burlap bag was made using hot glue to hold a piece of chalk.
Oh, I did go back and add some smudges of black here and there and sanded the edges giving the sign the rustic style that I love.
Before the chalkboard could be used it needs some prepping by covering it completely chalk, then remove the chalk with a soft cloth.
Now I can add the number of days til Christmas on my chair back sign (when I completed this sign and took photos there were 32 days til Christmas). The burlap chalk bag was secured using jute on the bag, and that’s it. Not so sure I like the little bit of detail work. What do you think?

What a great way to repurpose the chair back. It has such a pretty shape. And I think the little detail works. It’s a great spot to store the chalk too.
