These fun little repurposed spindle Angels are made from a couple of the wooden spindles out of my precious basket of spindles that I found at a garage sale last summer.

Repurposed Spindle Angels

I have been wanting to make some Angels from spindles way before I even found the basket full of spindles. Just wasn’t sure how I wanted to make them, plus I was still on the hunt for wooden spindles.

Spindle Angels

After seeing Laurel’s Angels that she had made at “Chipping With Charm”, I was inspired to get started making my own Repurposed Spindle Angels.

How To Make Repurposed Spindle Angels

Off to Hobby Lobby I went, looking for some kind of base for my Spindle Angels. I found this little dish/planter that I thought would be perfect for the taller angel.

I decided to make her wings from burlap. So I cut out the wing shape and then laid it on some wax paper and gave it a very heavy coat of Mod Podge and letting it dry over night.

For the smaller angel I was still trying to figure out what to use for the base.

While at Hobby Lobby I did pick up some wood heart plaques that I thought would work. But they just didn’t provide the look that I was looking for.

In the mean time my hubby was in the kitchen taking down an out of date light fixture (still working on our remodel), when my eyes zeroed in on the glass globes. The glass globes would be the perfect base.

So I dashed over and grabbed all three ;-D globes, which can be used in other projects as well.

Angels home decor

The problem for my angel base has been solved. Now I just needed to antique the globe that I will be using, and I did that with a dab of coffee, and Mod Podge painted on the inside of the glass globe.

This little angel’s wings were made from wire.

Both repurposed angels have a metal key attached around their necks with a piece of jute.

Hello. How did you attach the angel wings? Both the metal and burlap, please.

Hi Carmela! For the angel with the wire wings I drilled a holes in the back and wrapped some wire around the center of the wings and glued it in the hole with clear gorilla glue. The burlap wings a little glue and a staple. Hope this helps. If you have anymore questions please don’t hesitate to ask. 🙂 Thanks so much for stopping by!

How precious! These are beautiful. I attended a short class at the local home and garden show and we used old spindles for tote handles. It was fun! Thanks for linking up with the creative circle!

Thank you Corinna! That sounds like fun, I have lots of spindles I will have to try that out. I also seen totes with antique hand drills that were pretty neat!

Linda, this is really cute! You’ve inspired me to go take another look at some spindles I’ve got stashed away. I love everything about it. You are so creative to be able to look at something & automatically know what you want to do with it.

Hi Linda! Love your idea to make an angel from a spindle! I am a spindle lover too! Is it ok if I link back to you in a blog post I am currently writing about inspirational spindle projects? Your angel has inspired me to make my own so I would like to write a tutorial on mine. Of course, I won’t copy yours but I would like to source your post so people can check it out! I would definitely link back to your post! You can email me if you like – I would love to hear back from you! Thanks so much and happy crafting!
